International Women's Day 2021 @UniVie

Film screening and panel discussions March 7-14 via online stream

Gender equality in science: Are we there yet?

Proceeding with passion, persistence and perspectives

On the occasion of International Women’s Day we celebrate female scientists with a film screening and two panel discussions. We invite you to get to know both Austrian and Canadian scientists and explore with us challenges women face on their way to success. Special guest Hon. Kirsty Duncan, former Canadian Minister of Science.

With this event we want to raise awareness of the on-going transformation of scientific work environments across gender and examine the opportunities young female scientists have today.

Film screening 'Ms. Scientist' by Brandy Yanchyk: March 7-14 2021, stream        more/less...

(45min, Canada, 2018)
"Around the world the fields of scientific research and development remain a male-dominated environment. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics less than thirty percent of the world’s researchers are women. Many women enter a career in science but leave because of roadblocks and challenges. Canada wants to change that.
Brandy Yanchyk’s documentary Ms Scientist explores how Canada is trying to get female scientists to stay in the fields of science and progress to the top. Ms Scientist looks at the successes and challenges that Canada’s female scientists face. The film delves into their lives and examines the obstacles that are hindering their success such as balancing family and work, sexual harassment and unconscious bias."    source: brandyyanchyk.com/ms-scientist
